Bluegrass
Marshall and Shelby Stephenson
are lifelong musicians with
numerous accomplishment in
literature and music. The
brothers are Johnston County
natives and grew up just a few
miles from Smith's Nursery,
Inc.
Shelby Stephenson is a
professor of literature at UNC-Pembroke
and has received several awards
for both his poetry and music.
Marshall Stephenson is an
accomplished musician and recent
"Tar Heel of the Week".
Marshall Stephenson helped to
create "Bluegrass Train", a
deliberate throwback to the
bluegrass and country TV shows
that aired throughout the South
in the '60s and early '70s.
Drifting River Band is a local
band based in Benson, NC. The
band was started 2 years ago by
members Mike Langdon and Johnny
Mac McLamb. Mike Langdon, of
Benson, is a natural musician
with timing and toe tapping
drive. Johnny Mac McLamb, also
of Benson, has a unique style
with an arsenal of country,
bluegrass and gospel songs. We
hope you and your family will
enjoy a day of music, food and
